about

Eldar Tagi is a sound artist, composer, and researcher with roots in Almaty (Kazakhstan), Los Angeles (California, USA), and most recently, Berlin (Germany). His practice spans a diverse array of sonic approaches, including live electronic and electro-acoustic improvisation, composition, and sound installations. Tagi's work often explores themes of complexity, liminality, the reimagining and critique of tradition, and the intricate dynamics of human-animal relationships. His artistic toolkit is equally varied, encompassing conventional instruments like electric guitars, experimental and esoteric creations such as the daxophone, modular synthesizers, field recordings, and custom music software. Drawing from his peripatetic lifestyle and distinctly mixed heritage, Tagi cultivates a practice that is deeply personal,  idiosyncratically unfettered, and inherently experimental.

Tagi’s work, both solo and as part of the duo the2vvo with artist/researcher Lena Pozdnyakova, has been featured internationally. Notable exhibitions and showcases include the “Archive Machines” exhibition at the Los Angeles Municipal Museum of Art, the Bauhaus Festival in Dessau, Germany, the SoundPedro sound art festival in San Pedro, California, the Korkut Sound Art and New Music Biennial at the Kasteev Museum in Almaty, Kazakhstan, Voices Berlin, Unsound, and CTM festivals. In 2024, Tagi’s and Prozdnyakova’s work “Presence” was presented at the second official pavilion of Kazakhstan at the 60th International Art Exhibition in Venice, Italy.
