about
Eldar Tagi (b. 1987, Almaty, Kazakhstan) is a sound artist, composer-performer, and researcher whose work involves a range of sonic practices, including live electronic and electro-acoustic improvisation, composition, and installations. The topics and themes often explored in Tagi’s work involve dynamical systems, liminality, sound perception, as well as bio- and eco-acoustics. Tagi employs a diverse set of tools in his work, including guitars, daxophone and other esoteric instruments, self-made instruments, analog and digital synthesizers, field recording, and computer software.
Having spent several years in Los Angeles and currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Sound Studies at the Berlin University of the Arts, Tagi combines scavenged and unearthed experimental sonic practices from both locations with experiences derived from a somewhat nomadic lifestyle thas, and his distinctly mixed Central Asian heritage.
Tagi's projects, both solo and as part of the duo the2vvo with artist/researcher Lena Pozdnyakova, have been featured internationally. Notable exhibitions and showcases include the “Archive Machines” exhibition at the Los Angeles Municipal Museum of Art, the Bauhaus Festival in Dessau, Germany, the SoundPedro sound art festival in San Pedro, California, the Korkut Sound Art and New Music Biennial at the Kasteev Museum in Almaty, Kazakhstan, Unsound, and CTM festivals. In 2024, Tagi’s and Pozdnyakova’s work “Presence” was presented at the second official pavilion of Kazakhstan at the 60th International Art Exhibition in Venice, Italy.
